Authorship & Production
Pierre Roche, born Fernand Massignon (sculptor, medalist, designer, and ceramic collaborator, French, 1855–1922) for Émile Muller & Cie (ceramic manufactory, Ivry-sur-Seine, Val-de-Marne, Île-de-France, France). The manufactory was founded by Émile Muller (Altkirch, Alsace, 1823 – Nice, 1889) and continued under his son Louis Muller, dit Louis d'Émile (1855–1921), who took over in 1889 and directed the firm through its Art Nouveau peak. The firm was liquidated in February 1908 and acquired by Camille Bériot, who continued to produce ceramics under the Muller name until at least 1918. The present foot-warmer, dated c. 1915, was produced under Bériot's direction while the firm continued to trade as Émile Muller & Cie.
