Archive Statement
Le Bestiaire is a scholarly archive devoted to animal-centered Art Nouveau ceramics from France and continental Europe. It is organized as a connected field of objects, makers, animals, forms, materials, and places, allowing each work to be seen both individually and within a broader artistic ecosystem.
The archive is built for slow looking and comparative research. Object records combine museum-style metadata—date, material, dimensions, marks, provenance, and literature—with interpretive commentary, footnotes, and source references. Artist and maker dossiers link individual works to the studios, manufactories, and regional traditions that produced them.
Navigation is treated as part of the curatorial experience. Visitors may enter through animal taxonomy, ceramic form, maker, country or region, and move from object to context without losing the visual thread. The result is not simply a catalog of works, but an image-led research archive for natural and fantastical forms in Art Nouveau ceramics.
